Lillia's eye drama!

Yesterday Lillia and I went into the Doctors office. We went in to get some medicated drops for our eyes, because we both have eye infections. Lillia always has one! We have tried the drops quite a few times, and they seem to work for a few days, but then her eyes get all goopy again. This time her doctor suggested that we take her to see an ophthalmologist, because he thought they were being caused by a blocked tear duct. He made the appointment for today, so this morning we went to see Dr. Fullmer in Rexburg. (Jake and Megan, he said to tell you hi.) He examined Lillia and put some fluorescent drops in her eye to see if they would drain right. He also dilated her eyes and did a quick exam , and we now know that Lillia is near sighted! Dr. Fullmer said it is uncommon for kids her age to be near sighted already, and that she will need glasses by the time she is two! After waiting a while to see if her eyes would drain, we found out that her eye ducts are clogged and need to be probed, and that in order to do this she will need to be sedated. We got all kinds of wonderful news! ( just in case you couldn't tell, that was sarcasm.) So Lillia will go in to the surgical center on Thursday morning. It is a really simple procedure, but I am still a little nervous. Having her put under scares me, mostly because she is so young and we don't know how she will react to the medication. The poor girl is so sick and tired of people messing with her eyes! She was so happy when we finally left the the Dr. office. More to come on this adventure on Thursday.

Oh my goodness Gini,

Poor little thing! Sedated and probed! It doesnt matter how simple the procedure is, that is so scary having such a young baby going under. I freaked out when Mason went in a couple months ago to be put out for his. If she does need glasses, im sure she will be totally darling and stylin' It is a little young (before the age of two) but i always think kids with glasses look so cute. If thats any consolation =)

Sorry about the drama for Lillia! I'm sure she'll do just fine on Thurs, as she's tough from having big brothers (and Isabel). Good luck.

How terrible for such a little thing to go through so much! And I hate eye drama...simply having my pupils dilated was awful for me. But, a friend of mine had a son with the same problem, and now he's totally fine. He'd always have goopy eyes and infections-that sometimes trickled onto his neck and ear because the goop (sorry for the terminology) would simply get everywhere! But, he's totally fine now, so I'm sure your little Lillia will be fine.
And, coming from a near-sided person, glasses aren't so bad...I'm sure she'll look darling in glasses. She's already such a cutie! :)

Poor girl! So sad that she has to be sedated to get the ducts cleared out. Hope everything goes well on Thur. I guess it's a good thing that you at least found out she's near sighted. I always wondered how you tell if they have vision problems when they're so little. Would you have guessed she was near sighted and took her in if she didn't have the infections? Just curious. I'm sure she will look darling with glasses.

My daughter, now 4.5, has the same issue. At age 3, we took her in to the peds office, after 3 years of eye infections. We didn't see our regular ped, but another Dr in the office. He told us to see the specialist and yes, she had tear duct obstruction. We discovered during her post op physical that she also has a heart murmur. We decided after the EKG and ultra sounds that this was not the best time for the probe.
Amazingly enough, she has NEVER had another eye infection - EVER!! 1.5 years of no infections.

She will so adorable with glasses, just make sure they don't resemble her uncle jed's glasses! I read this post yesterday and thought to myself--my kids have never had an eye infection. Well, today McKenna has had her first!
